Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Vikings robbed the room for Felton. Final grade: B-. Call it larceny. Tai Felton sat on the board until pick 120, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Reaching for Lachey left real value on the table behind him. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A clean, defensible pick in the 35th overall pick with a little surplus value in Omarion Hampton. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Steal is underselling it; Jayden Higgins at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick103
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in pick 103 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Taking Tai Felton in pick No. 120 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in Round 5, Pick 1 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick141
Rnd5
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at slot 141 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick160
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 160th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick167
Rnd5
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at No. 167 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick178
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
A slide stopped in pick 178, with DJ Giddens worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick239
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Circle this one: Cam Jackson at No. 239 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
