A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

Of all the ways to open, the Steelers chose the head-scratcher, spending pick 51 on Kingsley Suamataia with quarterback, safety and other spots still wide open.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting Chambers proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Polk. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick No. 26 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kingsley Suamataia at offensive lineman with quarterback, safety and other spots open.
Pick84 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
The board had Ja'Lynn Polk higher than No. 89, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick98 Rnd3 DeWayne Carter
DeWayne Carter in pick 98 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick119 Rnd4 Josh Newton
They paid sticker price for Josh Newton in Round 4, Pick 19, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick178 Rnd6 Steele Chambers
They talked themselves into Steele Chambers at the 178th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick195 Rnd6 Caedan Wallace
A reach for Caedan Wallace in the 195th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
