A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B.

The Collin Oliver selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 69 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. However the rest shakes out, Lachey at that price is a win they earned. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in slot 38, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins slipping to pick 69 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
Value with a capital V on Cameron Williams in the 76th pick, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick77 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
By-the-book stuff, Jared Ivey at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander slid further than he should have, and the 106th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick144 Rnd5 Andres Borregales
They went early on Andres Borregales in the 144th pick, and the value did not follow. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick149 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
A slide stopped in the 149th overall pick, with Malachi Moore worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke Lachey at No. 217 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
They reached a country mile for Collin Oliver at pick 220, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick238 Rnd7 Cam Horsley
They took Cam Horsley at par in slot 238, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
