The Buccaneers landed square in the muddy middle: C+. The Roman Hemby pick is the one that will follow the Buccaneers into the fall. They took him 138 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
The Nelson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 20 they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Cooper DeJean in slot 52 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick84
Rnd3
Michael Pratt
They paid sticker price for Michael Pratt in Round 3, Pick 20, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni in pick No. 99 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Cade Stover
They paid a round early for Cade Stover in the 120th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick153
Rnd5
Payton Wilson
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Payton Wilson for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick173
Rnd5
Tre Harris
Tre Harris at the 173rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick198
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at pick No. 198 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick220
Rnd6
Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
