B+

FutureA
No fireworks, just a tidy B+ for the Buccaneers. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Buccaneers took J.J. Weaver at pick No. 209, roughly 78 spots before his name belonged.
It is not that Starks is a bad player; it is that the Buccaneers had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They banked enough surplus on Badger to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Malaki Starks
Of all the spots to shop, they chose defensive back. Malaki Starks in the 24th overall pick leaves interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick45
Rnd2
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in pick No. 45 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at No. 82 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111
Rnd4
Deion Burks
Deion Burks in Round 4, Pick 15 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick141
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Davison Igbinosun. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Deontae Lawson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deontae Lawson in pick 155. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick167
Rnd6
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at pick No. 167 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick174
Rnd6
Mason Taylor
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mason Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick205
Rnd7
Elijhah Badger
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Elijhah Badger for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick209
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
They talked themselves into J.J. Weaver at the 209th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
