Papagaff DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bengals robbed the room for Leonard. Final grade: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Riley Leonard had no business being available in pick No. 195, and the Bengals did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Burch proves the room right and everyone else wrong. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a downhill hitter at safety. More want than need.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Tyleik Williams. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
They paid a round early for Jordan Burch in the 81st overall pick, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jeffrey Bassa
A reach on Jeffrey Bassa in the 118th pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick154
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
A conviction pick on Ollie Gordon II at pick 154 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195
Rnd6
Riley Leonard
Circle this one: Riley Leonard at No. 195 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
