FutureA
The Buccaneers turned the phones into found money: A-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Buccaneers did exactly that with Amaris Williams in pick 182.
The Lee steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
With running back unsolved, spending premium capital on wide receiver is the choice that costs them.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Cayden Green
In pick 14 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Will Echoles
Taking Will Echoles in No. 34 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kade Pieper
Value with a capital V on Kade Pieper in pick No. 62, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick74
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bear Alexander at the 74th pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Reed Harris
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 11. Running back needed the pick; a wide receiver in Reed Harris did not.
Pick106
Rnd4
Raylen Wilson
They bypassed pressing needs at running back to take Raylen Wilson, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Pick111
Rnd4
Dylan Raiola
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Dylan Raiola at quarterback with running back open.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jaylen McClain
A want over a need in the 122nd pick: Jaylen McClain adds a safety while running back keeps waiting.
Pick141
Rnd5
DJ McKinney
A tidy little value on DJ McKinney in slot 141, a step better than break-even. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
Pick157
Rnd5
Walker Lyons
Walker Lyons at Round 5, Pick 20 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick182
Rnd6
Amaris Williams
Amaris Williams in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick223
Rnd7
Kayin Lee
They will replay Kayin Lee at pick 223 for years; that is how good the value is. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
