Best value of the weekend goes to the Buccaneers for Green: B+. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Buccaneers were there to profit. Trey'Dez Green, the No. 18 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 2, Pick 18. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will answer for taking linebacker early while quarterback and running back went begging. They will need Leigh to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Will Echoles
Will Echoles in slot 35 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick50
Rnd2
Trey'Dez Green
Steal is underselling it; Trey'Dez Green at pick 50 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick57
Rnd2
Chris Cole
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Chris Cole adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback and running back untouched.
Pick66
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at the 66th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
Fair-plus on Greg Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99
Rnd3
Devan Thompkins
Circle this one: Devan Thompkins at the 99th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick107
Rnd4
Nyck Harbor
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 6: Nyck Harbor adds a wide receiver while quarterback and running back keeps waiting.
Pick126
Rnd4
Kingston Lopa
A surprising call. With quarterback and running back still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Kingston Lopa, a safety they were not short of.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jayden Jackson
Jayden Jackson in Round 5, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick143
Rnd5
Desmeal Leigh
Desmeal Leigh at pick No. 143 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick183
Rnd6
Eli Bowen
Eli Bowen at the 183rd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick228
Rnd7
Edwin Spillman
A slide stopped in pick 228, with Edwin Spillman worth more than the price. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
