Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall B
ValueB NeedC+ TradesA+ FutureB
The Buccaneers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

The timing is a choice, not a need, but the Buccaneers took Drew Mestemaker anyway to have their next passer waiting in the wings.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. However the rest shakes out, Echoles at that price is a win they earned.

The Buccaneers indulged a want in Mestemaker while a need in cornerback, edge rusher and other spots stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Drew Mestemaker
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went quarterback with Drew Mestemaker while clear needs at cornerback, edge rusher and other spots sat open.
Pick34 Rnd2 Will Echoles
The board fumbled Will Echoles all the way to the 34th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick36 Rnd2 Trey'Dez Green
They barely believed it either: Trey'Dez Green still on the board at the Round 2 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick65 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at No. 65 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Greg Johnson
No edge and no loss on Greg Johnson in pick 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Jayden Jackson at the 136th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick142 Rnd5 Adon Shuler
They read the board right and Adon Shuler was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 4. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jalen Mayo
Jalen Mayo slipping to slot 152 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick156 Rnd5 Drayk Bowen
A straight-up fair deal on Drayk Bowen at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick182 Rnd6 Jayden Virgin-Morgan
Jayden Virgin-Morgan at No. 182 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick223 Rnd7 Edwin Spillman
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Edwin Spillman at pick No. 223 is the proof. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
