Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-. The curious call sets the tone. With interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots still glaring, the Steelers used slot 135 on Ar'maj Reed-Adams, an offensive lineman they were not exactly short of. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Trotter. They are betting Morris proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In the 21st pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jadarian Price
Fair-plus on Jadarian Price, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Josiah Trotter worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 85 with a little surplus value in Omar Cooper Jr.. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick95
Rnd3
Genesis Smith
Genesis Smith at No. 95 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
A reasonable price with a little left over, Daylen Everette in the 99th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121
Rnd4
Blake Miller
They did well to land Blake Miller in the 121st pick, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick125
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss is a better player than slot 125 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135
Rnd4
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Ar'maj Reed-Adams adds an offensive lineman and leaves interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick159
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at pick 159 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick213
Rnd6
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the 213th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214
Rnd6
Fernando Carmona
They paid sticker price for Fernando Carmona in slot 214, and that is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
Good price on Joey Aguilar in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick237
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at Round 7, Pick 21 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
