The Panthers left with their quarterback, and a D to match.

Nobody else had Rasheen Ali anywhere near the Round 7 slot. The Panthers did, by 73 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The whole projection now runs through Michael Penix Jr.; hit there and everything else looks smarter.

It is not that Jackson is a bad player; it is that the Panthers had louder needs to answer first. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.
