Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall
B

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Vikings. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Vikings would have aced it. Michael Harris at the 240th overall pick is 36 spots clear of where he belonged.
Getting Lee III where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 18 they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 31 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82
Rnd3
Will Lee III
Will Lee III in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick95
Rnd3
Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson in pick 95 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
They let Omar Cooper Jr. come to them and pounced at the 97th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick99
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley is a better player than slot 99 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick131
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trinidad Chambliss at the 131st overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick161
Rnd5
Sam Roush
They did well to land Sam Roush in slot 161, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194
Rnd6
Isaiah Nwokobia
They took Isaiah Nwokobia at par in Round 6, Pick 15, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Zuhn III in No. 213. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jerry Wilson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jerry Wilson. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick234
Rnd7
Keyron Crawford
They paid sticker price for Keyron Crawford in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick240
Rnd7
Michael Harris
A big swing on Michael Harris at pick 240, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
