Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueC NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Saints, and a B- to prove it.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Saints started one anyway for Jordan Burch, 48 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

The Williams pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Mike Green
In No. 9 they get a double-digit-sack hope, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jordan Burch
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Burch in Round 2, Pick 8 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick71 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
By-the-book stuff, Tate Ratledge at the 71st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick93 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ozzy Trapilo in slot 93. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick112 Rnd4 Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong in the 112th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131 Rnd4 Savion Williams
Taking Savion Williams in pick No. 131 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick184 Rnd6 Jake Briningstool
They let Jake Briningstool come to them and pounced at the 184th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick248 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks is a better player than No. 248 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
Mac McWilliams slid further than he should have, and Round 7, Pick 38 is lovely value for the cornerback. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
