Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueC-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chargers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The Chargers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 214 on Ethan Downs a full 70 spots early. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
However the rest shakes out, Skattebo at that price is a win they earned. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Landon Jackson in pick No. 22, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick55
Rnd2
David Walker
David Walker at pick 55 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker in No. 86 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
A running back of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 23 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
They jumped the gun on Seth McLaughlin, taking him earlier than his grade liked. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick181
Rnd6
Fadil Diggs
Fadil Diggs in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick199
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at slot 199 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick209
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Value with a capital V on KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick214
Rnd6
Ethan Downs
A real head-scratcher, Ethan Downs in pick No. 214 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick256
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
A straight-up fair deal on Cody Lindenberg at the 256th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
