Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

The 49ers did not so much draft Miles Frazier as overpay for him, 41 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Ransaw to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Sawyer. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick43 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Fair-plus on Josh Conerly Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Miles Frazier
A big swing on Miles Frazier at pick 75, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd3 Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at pick No. 100 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at No. 113 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick138 Rnd4 Dorian Strong
The board had Dorian Strong higher than the 138th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick160 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
They let Pat Bryant come to them and pounced at pick No. 160. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
You do not let a safety like Caleb Ransaw reach pick 227 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick249 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Thomas Fidone II. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
No drama and no debate, Teddye Buchanan went about where he belonged in the 252nd pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
