The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Dominic Zvada. He came off 70 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stockton. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In No. 20 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
Pick59
Rnd2
Kamari Ramsey
Kamari Ramsey is a better player than the 59th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick79
Rnd3
LaNorris Sellers
They let LaNorris Sellers come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick84
Rnd3
Ian Strong
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 84, where Ian Strong graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99
Rnd3
Julian Neal
The board had Julian Neal higher than the 99th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick119
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
A reach on Chase Bisontis in slot 119; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
A wild overpay on Jacob Rodriguez in slot 136, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick160
Rnd5
Kage Casey
Kage Casey at the 160th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick206
Rnd6
Gunner Stockton
They will replay Gunner Stockton at pick No. 206 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick213
Rnd6
Tree Babalade
A tidy little value on Tree Babalade in pick 213, a step better than break-even. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick219
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
A real head-scratcher, Dominic Zvada in No. 219 is miles ahead of his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
