Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
A-
ValueB-

TradesA+
FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: A-. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
Getting Alexander where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The McCarthy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, JC Latham and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
JC Latham
In No. 15 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 26th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
A reach on J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 5; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick61
Rnd2
Trey Benson
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick68
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at pick No. 68, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
No drama and no debate, Zach Frazier went about where he belonged in pick 89. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 104th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in slot 129 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick141
Rnd5
Cade Stover
A tidy little value on Cade Stover in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick182
Rnd6
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at slot 182 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick185
Rnd6
Moose Muhammad III
By-the-book stuff, Moose Muhammad III at the 185th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick225
Rnd7
Aki Ogunbiyi
They did well to land Aki Ogunbiyi in No. 225, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
