Draft Grade — Bears

The phones sank the Bears this weekend: C-.

The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. For now it grades a C-, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Ratledge left real value on the table behind him. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

So much rides on Rome Odunze that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value.
Pick12 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In No. 12 they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
No edge and no loss on Troy Fautanu in the 44th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
A straight-up fair deal on Kamren Kinchens at slot 69, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick76 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in pick 76. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick105 Rnd4 Tate Ratledge
A reach on Tate Ratledge in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
They paid a round early for Jaheim Bell in the 128th pick, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick142 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis in pick No. 142 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
