Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B

The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Evans: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Mitchell Evans slide 77 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

If Sheppard pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at Round 2, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75 Rnd3 Malaki Starks
Taking Malaki Starks in No. 75 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick99 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Fair-plus on Ozzy Trapilo, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at the 111th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick137 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at slot 137 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick185 Rnd6 Smael Mondon Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Smael Mondon Jr. reach pick 185 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in the 226th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick230 Rnd7 Mitchell Evans
They robbed the room for Mitchell Evans here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick249 Rnd7 Will Sheppard
They talked themselves into Will Sheppard at No. 249, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
They will replay Miles Frazier at pick 255 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
