FutureB-
The Colts checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with CJ West at the Round 5 slot, a reach of 62 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In the 14th overall pick they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A clean, defensible pick in No. 45 with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick81
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cam Skattebo well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
No edge and no loss on Anthony Belton in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick151
Rnd5
CJ West
CJ West at Round 5, Pick 13 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
