Draft Grade — Bills
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureD
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Bills to a D.

The Bills bet big and early on Darius Alexander, 32 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Parrish pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with linebacker, offensive lineman and other spots still on the board. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Emmanwori. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In pick No. 30 they get a potential shutdown corner, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
They read the board right and Kenneth Grant was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick48 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the 48th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick62 Rnd2 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in Round 2, Pick 30 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jacob Parrish
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jacob Parrish at cornerback with linebacker, offensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick132 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in the 132nd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick166 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at No. 166 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick170 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They went early on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 170, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A reach on JJ Pegues in Round 5, Pick 35; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
