Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Bears won the night they stopped Mondon Jr. from sliding. Grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 110 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 19. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In slot 10 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in the 41st overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Omarion Hampton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Omarion Hampton in the 72nd pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at pick No. 149 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick197 Rnd6 Smael Mondon Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Smael Mondon Jr. reach No. 197 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick235 Rnd7 Brant Kuithe
Value with a capital V on Brant Kuithe in Round 7, Pick 17, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick242 Rnd7 Andres Borregales
They will replay Andres Borregales at pick 242 for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
