Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Chiefs: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Hayden Conner in the 228th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Felton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In the 31st overall pick they get a downhill hitter at safety at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick63
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
Nice patience on TreVeyon Henderson, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 31. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick66
Rnd3
Wyatt Milum
They did well to land Wyatt Milum in slot 66, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick102
Rnd3
Sebastian Castro
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots to take Sebastian Castro, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick130
Rnd4
Pat Bryant
Value said wait; Pat Bryant in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133
Rnd4
Tai Felton
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 133 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II at No. 226 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick228
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hayden Conner well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick251
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
They read the board right and Cam Jackson was the payoff at the 251st overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick257
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Value with a capital V on Ja'Corey Brooks in the 257th pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
