Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
Johnson should have been long gone. The Chargers pounced, and earned a A-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chargers were there to profit. Cornelius Johnson, the No. 188 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 5. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If Guerendo pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the 16th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 34, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick37 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
A clean, defensible pick in slot 37 with a little surplus value in Troy Franklin. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Ruke Orhorhoro
They took Ruke Orhorhoro at par in the 69th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick105 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick110 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
A big swing on Isaac Guerendo at pick 110, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones in Round 5, Pick 4 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Marist Liufau
The board had Marist Liufau higher than the Round 6 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jaylen Harrell
They paid a round early for Jaylen Harrell in Round 6, Pick 17, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick225 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Cornelius Johnson at pick No. 225 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick253 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at slot 253 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
