49er4eva DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Milton: B. The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Kendall Milton, the No. 200 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Rosengarten pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 31st overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Steal is underselling it; Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 31 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94
Rnd3
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at No. 94 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick124
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick131
Rnd4
Maason Smith
They robbed the room for Maason Smith here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at slot 133 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176
Rnd6
AJ Barner
Good price on AJ Barner in pick 176, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick211
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kamal Hadden in the 211th pick, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jordan Travis
They barely believed it either: Jordan Travis still on the board at No. 215. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick251
Rnd7
Kendall Milton
The board fumbled Kendall Milton all the way to the 251st pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
