Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesC+
FutureB+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jamaree Caldwell at the 197th overall pick is 87 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Majors pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at fair value.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Booker at slot 39 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at pick 41 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick72
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at pick No. 72 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jake Majors
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 147 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at the 148th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick168
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A tidy bit of business in the 168th overall pick, where Bhayshul Tuten graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jamaree Caldwell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jamaree Caldwell this early at pick 197. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick233
Rnd7
Elijah Arroyo
Somehow Elijah Arroyo was still sitting there in slot 233, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the 244th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
