Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Henderson should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a C+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bears watched TreVeyon Henderson slide 81 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They will need Smith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. at the 9th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick37 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 5 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick40 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon at No. 40 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jake Majors
A wild overpay on Jake Majors in pick 71, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick142 Rnd5 TreVeyon Henderson
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at the 142nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick200 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
A straight-up fair deal on Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 200, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
They paid a round early for Garrett Dellinger in slot 232, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick246 Rnd7 Tim Smith
A real head-scratcher, Tim Smith in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
