Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedB TradesA FutureC
The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 85 on James Williams a full 45 spots early.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Wright value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Byron Murphy II
They paid a round early for Byron Murphy II in slot 29, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick40 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
Value said wait; T'Vondre Sweat in the 40th overall pick says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick50 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They reached a country mile for Cooper Beebe at No. 50, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick85 Rnd3 James Williams
James Williams at the 85th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick123 Rnd4 Malik Washington
Malik Washington at pick No. 123 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick156 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at Round 5, Pick 20 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick164 Rnd5 Jaylen Wright
A quiet steal in the 164th pick: Jaylen Wright for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
