SteveOM1 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Packers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
The board had cheaper options than Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 41, and it noticed. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jermaine Burton
They paid sticker price for Jermaine Burton in the 58th overall pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick88
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
A straight-up fair deal on Dominick Puni at No. 88, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A real head-scratcher, Maason Smith in pick 91 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick126
Rnd4
Elijah Jones
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Elijah Jones in the 126th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick169
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 33, with Tykee Smith worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick202
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace at slot 202 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick219
Rnd6
Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace in the 219th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick245
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal in pick No. 245 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
No drama and no debate, Trey Taylor went about where he belonged in No. 255. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
