FutureC
The 49ers worked the phones like thieves and earned a B. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Collin Oliver at pick No. 252 is 40 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Hairston pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick 26 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
A tidy little value on Derrick Harmon in No. 33, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick36
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Value with a capital V on Nick Emmanwori in the 36th overall pick, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Good price on Jihaad Campbell in slot 43, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
The board had cheaper options than Tate Ratledge at Round 2, Pick 25, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick111
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
A straight-up fair deal on Anthony Belton at No. 111, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
By-the-book stuff, Pat Bryant at the 140th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick150
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
They paid sticker price for Bhayshul Tuten in the 150th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick155
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick170
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
A conviction pick on JJ Pegues at pick No. 170 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick195
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at Round 6, Pick 19 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick206
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
They took Luke Lachey at par in pick 206, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick227
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in slot 227 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick230
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kyle Monangai in pick No. 230, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick252
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver in No. 252 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
