Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
D
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Bills got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The phones were a trap the Bills kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Reaching for Murphy left real value on the table behind him.
Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The Isaiah Likely deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
They paid sticker price for Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 28, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick43
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
A reach for Xavier Worthy in pick 43; a little patience would have been rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick60
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
A clean, defensible pick in the 67th pick with a little surplus value in Zach Frazier. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at slot 109 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Nothing to complain about; Johnny Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
No drama and no debate, Mohamed Kamara went about where he belonged in the 134th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Travis at Round 5, Pick 24, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163
Rnd5
Grayson Murphy
They jumped the gun on Grayson Murphy, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
