STEELYFAN DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

The Steelers robbed the room for Simpson. Final grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 178th overall pick.
Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Puni pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, safety and other spots still on the board.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In pick No. 20 they get a building block for the line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Maason Smith at the 84th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, safety and other spots to take Dominick Puni, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A premium they did not need to pay, Jarrian Jones a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jaylin Simpson
Somehow Jaylin Simpson was still sitting there in the 178th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
The board had Cornelius Johnson higher than No. 195, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
