Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Steelers reached some 57 spots for Dont'e Thornton Jr., and value like that does not grow back.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
In pick No. 21 they get a load in the middle, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe in Round 3, Pick 19 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick123 Rnd4 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 123 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick156 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens at slot 156 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick185 Rnd6 Cam Jackson
They talked themselves into Cam Jackson at the Round 6 slot, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
Value said wait; Shilo Sanders in the 229th pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
