The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Steelers took Shilo Sanders a full 54 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick83 Rnd3 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at pick 83 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick123 Rnd4 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens at the 123rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick156 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at pick No. 156 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 185th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at slot 229 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
