Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Scott from sliding. Grade: B. The board owed the Steelers one, and it paid up: Keionte Scott, the No. 66 name on the board, sitting there at No. 99 like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Schrauth pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
They let Makai Lemon come to them and pounced at pick No. 21. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick53
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen at pick 53 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick76
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
The board fumbled Josiah Trotter all the way to slot 76, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jake Golday
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Jake Golday in Round 3, Pick 21, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
They will replay Keionte Scott at the 99th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121
Rnd4
Billy Schrauth
Billy Schrauth in No. 121 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick135
Rnd4
Chris McClellan
Chris McClellan at the 135th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159
Rnd5
Drew Allar
They read the board right and Drew Allar was the payoff at the Round 5 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jeremiah Wright
Jeremiah Wright in the 213th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick214
Rnd6
Toriano Pride Jr.
Good price on Toriano Pride Jr. in slot 214, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jimmy Rolder
Jimmy Rolder in the 224th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick237
Rnd7
Fa'alili Fa'amoe
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at Round 7, Pick 21 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
