The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Hardy: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Steelers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
On value alone, Hardy makes the weekend a net positive. It is not that Van Pran is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 21st pick they get a long-term starter on the line. More want than need.
Pick52
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in the 52nd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A want over a need in No. 84: Sedrick Van Pran adds an offensive lineman while interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick120
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at Round 4, Pick 20 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jarrian Jones. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick158
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in pick No. 158 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick198
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
Nothing to complain about; De'Corian Clark went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick241
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy at Round 7, Pick 21 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
