Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Steelers for Schwesinger: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. Carson Schwesinger, the No. 125 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 223.

The Griffith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In pick 21 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Matthew Golden
Value with a capital V on Matthew Golden in No. 52, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick83 Rnd3 Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas in the 83rd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick121 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 121 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick161 Rnd5 Connor Colby
Connor Colby at Round 5, Pick 24 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick223 Rnd7 Carson Schwesinger
Taking Carson Schwesinger in the 223rd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245 Rnd7 Julian Fleming
Julian Fleming at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
