Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers let Rogers fall into their laps, and walked away with a D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Landing Rogers that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In the 21st overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick26 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick83 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston slid further than he should have, and the 83rd pick is lovely value for the cornerback. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90 Rnd3 Savion Williams
By-the-book stuff, Savion Williams at No. 90 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at slot 123 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick156 Rnd5 Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in Round 5, Pick 18 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick185 Rnd6 CJ West
CJ West in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick229 Rnd7 Caleb Rogers
They will replay Caleb Rogers at slot 229 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
