Grand theft in Round 3, Pick 35: the Steelers steal Hood and grade out a B+. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Colton Hood slide 32 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They are betting Jackson Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 17 with a little surplus value in Jordyn Tyson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick47
Rnd2
Darrell Jackson Jr.
They paid a round early for Darrell Jackson Jr. in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick77
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
A premium they did not need to pay, Caleb Tiernan a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick78
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
They went early on Malachi Fields in slot 78, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99
Rnd3
Colton Hood
Colton Hood at No. 99 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
