The Patriots won the night they stopped Rivers from sliding. Grade: B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Eric Rivers got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the Round 3 slot. No fireworks, but a solid B.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Reaching for Lomu left real value on the table behind him. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The back end got a real overhaul.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
