Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB+ NeedC TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Steelers took Jaleel Johnson a full 60 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

However the rest shakes out, Viliamu-Asa at that price is a win they earned. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. With quarterback and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Leonard Moore
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Leonard Moore at cornerback with quarterback and tight end open.
Pick48 Rnd2 Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa in Round 2, Pick 16, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick78 Rnd3 Keon Sabb
Keon Sabb at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick80 Rnd3 Bear Alexander
They robbed the room for Bear Alexander here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jordan Marshall
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Marshall at pick 149, value and slot in agreement. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jaleel Johnson
They reached into another round for Jaleel Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick197 Rnd6 Dezz Ricks
Dezz Ricks at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick223 Rnd7 DeAndre Moore Jr.
They paid sticker price for DeAndre Moore Jr. in the 223rd overall pick, and that is fine. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick235 Rnd7 Emerson Mandell
Emerson Mandell in pick No. 235 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
