Draft Grade — Steelers

The board had answers; the Steelers had Louis. Grade: F. The Steelers clearly saw something nobody else did in Kyle Louis, taking him 46 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In pick No. 8 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value.
Pick21
Rnd1
Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks in Round 1, Pick 21 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick42
Rnd2
Ja'Kobi Lane
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ja'Kobi Lane this early at the 42nd overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick53
Rnd2
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the 53rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Trinidad Chambliss
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trinidad Chambliss in No. 76, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Jude Bowry
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jude Bowry. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick99
Rnd3
Kyle Louis
They talked themselves into Kyle Louis at the 99th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
Value said wait; Davison Igbinosun in pick 121 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick187
Rnd6
Josh Cuevas
A reach on Josh Cuevas in the Round 6 slot; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick224
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
A wild overpay on Eric Gentry in pick No. 224, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick237
Rnd7
Micah Morris
They liked Micah Morris enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 21. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
