FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Steelers. The Steelers did not so much draft Kamran James as overpay for him, 51 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Neal where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
KC Concepcion
In No. 31 they get a true top target. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
CJ Allen
Steal is underselling it; CJ Allen at the 53rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick63
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick76
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy in Round 3, Pick 12 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick85
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
They robbed the room for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99
Rnd3
Julian Neal
Somehow Julian Neal was still sitting there in pick 99, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch slid further than he should have, and the 121st pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick131
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in pick No. 131 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick135
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Logan Jones slipping to the 135th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick159
Rnd5
J'Mari Taylor
J'Mari Taylor at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick213
Rnd6
Kamran James
Kamran James at No. 213 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick214
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
They liked Keyron Crawford enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 214. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick224
Rnd7
Fernando Carmona
A clean, defensible pick in slot 224 with a little surplus value in Fernando Carmona. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick237
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at Round 7, Pick 21 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
