Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Steelers spent Round 7, Pick 21 on Markis Deal, a name most had 42 spots down the list.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Scott. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Makai Lemon
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value.
Pick53 Rnd2 Kamari Ramsey
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamari Ramsey at pick No. 53 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at slot 76 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick85 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
They barely believed it either: Keionte Scott still on the board at the 85th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick99 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
A conviction pick on Zachariah Branch at pick 99 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trinidad Chambliss in No. 121. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick135 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
They paid sticker price for DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 135, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick159 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aamil Wagner. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jerry Wilson
Jerry Wilson in pick 213 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214 Rnd6 Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams at the 214th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick237 Rnd7 Markis Deal
This one needs a full-page explanation: Markis Deal in No. 237, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
