The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The Steelers clearly saw something nobody else did in Ryan Watts, taking him 38 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Sainristil pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. With quarterback, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. More want than need.
Pick38
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Zach Frazier at offensive lineman with quarterback, safety and other spots open.
Pick71
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Somehow Mike Sainristil was still sitting there in the 71st pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
They reached into another round for Brenden Rice, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick138
Rnd5
Trevin Wallace
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevin Wallace a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at the 178th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick195
Rnd6
Ryan Watts
Ryan Watts at the 195th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
