Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureD+
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B.

The Steelers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Reaching for McLeod left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

The Lachey steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In slot 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick50 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
A tidy little value on Kaleb Johnson in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick72 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at No. 72 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick87 Rnd3 Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers at pick No. 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
They paid sticker price for Malachi Moore in pick 137, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick156 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at Round 5, Pick 18 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jalen McLeod
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen McLeod this early at the 185th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick229 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 229th overall pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick233 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Nothing to complain about; Phil Mafah went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
