Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Preston Stone in pick No. 238, a good 122 spots before the room expected him. Put together, it is a D-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Majors. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Steelers paired the rookies with proven help, Braden Fiske leading the way.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Omarion Hampton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Omarion Hampton at the Round 1 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick60 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
A safety of that caliber at slot 60 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Smael Mondon Jr.
The board fumbled Smael Mondon Jr. all the way to pick 85, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91 Rnd3 Jay Higgins
Somehow Jay Higgins was still sitting there in the 91st pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at Round 3, Pick 30 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita at No. 100 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick121 Rnd4 Tacario Davis
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Tacario Davis in the 121st pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick132 Rnd4 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in No. 132 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick153 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at pick No. 153 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick224 Rnd7 Kyren Lacy
A real head-scratcher, Kyren Lacy in slot 224 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jake Briningstool
You do not let a tight end like Jake Briningstool reach Round 7, Pick 12 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick234 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
Taking Ollie Gordon II in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Preston Stone
Preston Stone at pick 238 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
