Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Steelers: B-.

The tape said wait; the Steelers did not. Chase Bisontis went at Round 3, Pick 21, a good 29 picks before the board was ready. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

The Bisontis pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, linebacker and other spots still on the board. That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In the 21st overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that.
Pick53 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
Nice patience on Olaivavega Ioane, who had no business lasting to pick No. 53. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange in pick 76 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Chase Bisontis
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Chase Bisontis while clear needs at edge rusher, linebacker and other spots sat open.
Pick99 Rnd3 Kaytron Allen
They paid sticker price for Kaytron Allen in slot 99, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
They let Jalon Kilgore come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 21. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick135 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in the 135th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick159 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick213 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
No edge and no loss on Fernando Carmona in No. 213; it is a wash and a sensible one. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick214 Rnd6 Kevin Jennings
Kevin Jennings at the 214th pick is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick224 Rnd7 J. Michael Sturdivant
Nothing to complain about; J. Michael Sturdivant went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick237 Rnd7 Tosh Baker
Tosh Baker in pick No. 237 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
