Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC- FutureB
The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

Nobody had Kaidon Salter this high, and it is not close. The Steelers reached 76 spots to get him at No. 237. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

Landing Allar that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In slot 21 they get a weapon on the perimeter at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick53 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Good price on Emmanuel Pregnon in the 53rd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick85 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zakee Wheatley in No. 85. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at the 99th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick121 Rnd4 Lander Barton
A big swing on Lander Barton at pick 121, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick135 Rnd4 Zane Durant
A wild overpay on Zane Durant in Round 4, Pick 35, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick159 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Somehow Drew Allar was still sitting there in pick No. 159, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick213 Rnd6 London Humphreys
They reached a country mile for London Humphreys at pick 213, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jerry Wilson
Jerry Wilson in the 214th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick224 Rnd7 PJ Williams
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on PJ Williams. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick237 Rnd7 Kaidon Salter
Kaidon Salter at the 237th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
