FutureA+
Larceny in slot 213 lands the Steelers a B, Green and all. Thirty-one other rooms let Taylen Green slide, and the Steelers were the ones holding the card at Round 6, Pick 35. Highway robbery.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Steelers indulged a want in Brailsford while a need in interior defensive lineman and edge rusher stayed open. The Tiernan pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick51
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor in pick 51 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jonah Coleman
Value with a capital V on Jonah Coleman in the 67th pick, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at the 76th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick119
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and edge rusher still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 19 on Parker Brailsford, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick133
Rnd4
Tao Johnson
Good price on Tao Johnson in No. 133, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
They liked Jacob Rodriguez enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick160
Rnd5
Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at slot 160 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick175
Rnd5
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor at pick No. 175 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick197
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Earnest Greene III in the 197th overall pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick212
Rnd6
Cam Calhoun
Cam Calhoun at pick No. 212 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick213
Rnd6
Taylen Green
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Taylen Green in Round 6, Pick 35, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at pick 223 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
Pick234
Rnd7
De'Zhaun Stribling
No drama and no debate, De'Zhaun Stribling went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Fair-plus on Diego Pavia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
